lic-melendez-2Attorney Meléndez, born and raised in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, obtained his law degree from the University of Puerto Rico Law School in 1968, after having received his B.S. from Kings College (Pa.) in 1965. He is admitted to practice in the Courts of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico (1968), the U.S. District Court for Puerto Rico (1969) and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit (1971). He is a Notary Public and a founding member and former director of the Puerto Rico Notaries Association.

Initially in the private practice, Mr. Meléndez served as General Counsel of Banco de Ponce from 1976. Since 1980 thru 2012, he was the principal and managing partner of various law firms, one of which, Mr. Robert Prats Palerm was a partner thereof. Since 2012, Mr, Meléndez has been a sole practitioner, having joined the RPP firm in 2015, as outside counsel.

Mr. Meléndez has extensive experience in relation to Banking Law, Contract Law, Mortgage Law, Corporation Law, Administrative and Notarial Law. He has extensive participated in the negotiation of all types of commercial and financial transactions, hotel and residential projects, office and residential condominiums. He has also been extensively involved in collection of monies and mortgage foreclosure cases.

Lastly Mr. Meléndez served as Director of the Government Development Bank for Puerto Rico, its Affiliates and Subsidiaries from 2005 thru 2009. He was also the President, Secretary and Director of Hogar Cuna San Cristobal (1992-2000), a home for children in transition for adoption, and President and Director of the Caparra Country Club (1976-1980 and 1990-1993). Currently he is a Director of the Salesian Society in Puerto Rico (since 2010) and member of the Dorado Beach Golf Club (since 1991).
